Apple's own back-to-school promo will yield you a free 8GB ipod touch and a free printer, which would seem to be a better deal than any of these offerings.

Windows is way cheaper. Linux is free. There's no reason you should be buying a Mac unless you're trying to pick up guys at coffeeshops.

After being tired with troublsome pavilions and vaios, I think I will go for Mac Pro, but are they really better (reliability?), it's the same platform now after all, just different OS...
I don't know anyone who has Mac, so can't get first hand opinion...

#11 MacBook 13" is my biggest computer headache to date! Freaking unreliable hardware. If you get a Mac go with the pro, I owned them in the past and never had a hardware issue. On the other hand I personally own 2 PS MacBooks a black and a white and both suck big donkey D...

On a different note I prefer working with Windows and Linux. Linux is free and there are many flavors to go around and learn new tricks with.

#12 Im a comp programmer and a network consultant for two businesses. I own a macbook and will never go back to a PC even though I learned the PC. The hardware is the same (heck all hardware comes from China or Taiwan) but its the OS that makes it work. Windows has trouble doing simple tasks and cant utilize capabilities as well as mac. Bottomline, Trust me spend the extra money and it'll be worth it. I do suggest going for the unibody though.

#12 - go to the store yourself and try the different models and see which works for you best. If you are like #14 and have a very small pencil and need something expensive and flashy to distract from it, you might as well buy a Mac. Being a Mac owners will tell girls that your parents have money and will let you have all you want, offsetting the sexual dissatisfaction they will have in the love-making department.

I agree with #15 - I love Macs but I don't really need a laptop so the iMacs give you a lot more computer for your money. I have a almost 3 year old Intel iMac that runs everything coming out today just fine, so the price ($1100) back then was well worth it.

Macbooks are awesome! I agree with #17. I also have a 3 year old macbook, and am considering buying another one so I can hand this puppy down to my 12 year old cousin to play with.
