Steam has the Bastion Game (PC) for $5 downloaded. Action role-playing indie game features a reactive narrator, over 40 hand-painted environments, and has excellent reviews at Metacritic.
So sick of Steam. I lost Internet (but not power) for 3 days due to a storm. Couldn't play any steam single player game because steam complained that it couldn't connect. It offered to go into offline mode but then gave me an error that it couldn't. Another time it gave me an error that I couldn't play HL2, ep2 since it "wasn't ready" even though it was 100% downloaded. It worked the next day by some miracle though.
I agree #2. I'm tired of people complaining about Steam. Move out of the sticks, upgrade your cheap internet, pay your bill, and shut the hell up PLEASE.
As a system builder who semi-frequently has to reformat a drive, I love that I never have to lug out a box of all my games in order to re-install. I love that I can play on ANY PC I want and I love how easy the Steam community stuff works.
Sounds like you're in the minority #1. I'm a big steam fan myself - they have frequently awesome sales (esp. on indie games) and I reinstall windows biannually so and I too love not having dig through install CDs.
Regarding the game: I picked it up when it was $7 on steam sale a few weeks back. It's a wonderful diversion - environments are gorgeous and the narration is frequently hilarious. Worth every penny
Steam is cool. I'm not a big fan of purchasing a game and not having a physical copy that I can resell when I get done with it. But with that said, I have purchased many games through Steam and Direct 2 Drive that were low in price (Usually below $15 bucks). I wouldn't pay $50 or $60 bucks for a game I couldn't resell or trade. Also there is an offline mode for Steam that will allow you to play (wait for it) offline.
I've had more headaches with physical copies of games and drm. Steam (with its regular sales) has saved pc gaming for me. While resale value is nice I'd rather have a stable steam copy. Yeah Benkat is right about being able to play without the internet connected.
Bastion Review 8.5 Bastion is a wonderfully diverse game that offers up a great deal of flexibility in how you approach its many challenges.
The Good
Beautiful artistic style Varied stages offer unexpected challenges Lots of weapons and other unlockables Numerous ways to customize your character and your experience.
The only thing I can say bad about Steam is when they have their holiday sales. Don't get me wrong I love them, but they put the same games on sale one week, and then turn around and put them on sale again but for even less! So for the big holiday sale they had before Thanksgiving the had "Orc's must Die" for $10 (I bought it) yesterday it was $3.75. Also during the holiday sale they had 'Dungeon Defenders" for around $12 can't remember, I bought so many games that week! First of this week they had it on sale for $7.49. Might not seem like a lot, but I buy a LOT of games when they are on sale. I just wise they would put different games on sale. This same thing happened to me last year. I over spent about $30 in less then a week.
The rule for steam (for me at least) is not to buy games until they are at least 75% off. Especially with games I'm on the fence about. Usually 75% off means sub $10 prices. If not I really have to debate. The only bad experience I've had with Steam is when I couldn't remember my password change, and had to wait for them to reset (three days wait). But this isn't Steam's issue, it's because of my forgetfulness.

Thanks valve. No more games purchases for you.
This will make a great gift for both my boy's Steam accounts.
Sorry max, Steam rocks. Blame your ISP for your connection issue, not Steam. Just get a game on Origin and you'll appreciate how awesome Steam is.
