I still say, if you're going to reach down to the level of the electrical outlet, to switch something off, why not save the money, and UNPLUG whatever it is you're trying to turn off??

I yank on the wire to unplug things all the time and this sometimes cause damage to the wire. So I can see this can be useful.
You should only yank on your crank if you need to, not on electrical cords. Pull on the plug.
