Great movie, just saw it again a few weeks ago.
Amazing to think this was done long before digital effects. Charlton Heston spent 6 weeks learning how to drive a 4-horse chariot, and yes, the chariot and horses really did jump a crashed chariot (though it was a stunt double who did it and nearly got killed). The only "special effects" were heavy reliance on matte paintings which, to my eyes, were impossible to spot.
+1 on that. Also goes to show that with a good script and attention to details, the special effects will enhance the movie and put it over the top. Take away a good script and add a lot more special effect and you end up with John Carter.
just be aware most credit cards, including Amazon Visa, charge a 3% foreign transaction fee. A few, like some Capital One cards, do not but they are the exception.
