Not worth it, 9800GTX+ should be at this price.
And the $150 Asus 4850 still kills the 9800GTX+ and 9800GTX
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3340&p=6
Agreed. This thing uses more power and is slower and costs more than a 4850.
Two slot cooler...
that's what she said...
the 4850 doesn't exactly kill the 9800gtx, you noobs. a few FPS here and there hardly amount to slaying another device.
I just find it funny that NVIDIA had to drop the price on these cards by $100 just to compete with the HD 4850.
These are still great performing cards... but their downside is:
Requires 2 power connectors
Uses more power
Takes up 2 slots
Is a pretty long card and wont fit into most small cases
This is real comparable to ATI's. In some games its faster and in others the 4850 is.
I would buy an ATI card on principle... hope to force NVIDIA off their pedestal and allow other motherboard manufactures to enable SLI.
the 4850 kills the 9800gtx in terms of features, price and performance. not just a few fps. when you can run your comp to your tv and play your games in 1080P as well as 7.1 surround in your existing home theater setup without anything except an hdmi cable on an nvidia, then its just a few fps. especially since in america televisions are going hd in 2009. also don't forget dx10.1 which nvidia will not be supporting.
ha, tv broadcasts are going HD in 09? get your facts straight, nubbin's.
i agree that the 4850 is the better buy, but it's not the clear-cut victor some of you make it to be [COUGH#7COUGH].
#7 doesn't know what #7 is talking about. America's TV signals will all be digital, not all HD.
Yeah, #9's point of digital is more important, so that TV networks can force your Vista MCE to refuse "record[ing] your favorite TV shows!" Thanks for fighting the man, Microsoft!
I wish the 4850 was a double slot cooler so it would be quieter
my bad digital, the logical move would be to switch to hd as well but i suppose transmitting is not free.
#7 -- Your point was eloquently made, and yes that was a small slip.
When it's considered all Nvidia could do is drop its price [Cough-taking-it-in-drawers-Cough] and do a “look what we did in the lab†(GTX+) so the faithful (fanboys) wouldn't jump ship. It shows the reckless marketing the “team green†plays in. The green team has been less about “comprehensive strategy†and more about pinning ATI down, and it's now backfired and they find themselves on the ropes.
When you look at this as the immediate “hear and now†it appears price/performance there is no champion, true. Although, tell that to those who bought the 9800GTX in the first week of June, then within 10 days watched $100+ just evaporate. I'm sure that left a foul taste in some Nvidia owners. Also, it just annihilates the theory buying today, will provide the pleasure of playing vs. waiting for the price to drop again. Nvidia should be crediting those owners with a “step up†type program. (direct trade to the GTX+ for those who bit for the GTX when it was >$260).
Nvidia has been hit with the one-two punch, (4850 – 4870) and has pressed Nvidia in the corner. They now need to ramp up 55nm process chips and get them onto a true $150 street price card and fast. From what I read they weren't looking to support the price point with anything new until the Christmas buying season.
So now their choice is… move fast and respond with a true 8800GT successor that competes price wise (which stops the bleeding of the GTX as they could pull that), or hold off... and go with the idea they can bring something to market with enough features to justify a slightly higher price. Looking at what the GTX+ brings I don't see a revamped G92- 55nm cutting it, they need to change it more than a die-shrink.
AMD/ATI Fanboys can finally rejoice! ATI is finally producing a product that compares! yay! Let the Intel/Nvidia bashing begin! Go get your Magic the Gathering Cards, throw on your Frodo latex feet and cheer cheer cheer! O M F G ATI IS SO FING GOSHDARN RAD!!!1111 OMG AND SO IS AMD!!!1111 OMG NOW MY ODDLY SHAPED FING MONGOLOID HEAD IS GOING TO FING GOSHDAMN EXPLODE WITH PRIDE AGAIN!!!1111

#14 -- Has the 9600GT and look how flamed he gets... wow what if he had splurged for a 9800GTX...
Casecutter has finely tuned his insulting abilities such that he can squeeze tears of mass ownage from the eyes of silly folk with clever attacks on their video cards. Well done! Just imagine how much more leet you'll be once you've finished the 9th grade!
Poofinger =Typical low budget cranial shrill that has to morph back with a new user name.
