I'm not sure I understand, regular price $289.00, save $72.25, your price is $216.75. Why would I pay $299?

The price is approx $299 if you opt to purchase the stand:

    $216.75 (dumbells) + $81.75 (stand) = 298.50

I was about to buy a set of these, but after looking into them, I found out there were a number of plastic components that can (and have been reported to) break. I ended up buying powerblocks, which are much more durable and expandable (up to 120 lbs per hand). I'm really happy with them. checkout www.powerblocks.com

I bought mine at a chicago fitness that was going out of business. I got the pro stand, and a set with up to 90 lbs per hand for $480

Agreed, #4. I also use powerblocks. No cheapy plastic parts. Friends who have these Bowflex things have trouble with the selector breaking...and try getting them fixed!

I wish I wasn't poor and could actually afford these or the powerblocks that #4/#7 suggested.

Dude, all you gotta do is push-ups, sit-ups, stretches and running. It's cheap as hell, keeps you looking and feeling good, and you can do it anywhere. If you can't get outside then shadow boxing in front of the mirror is an adequate substitute for running.

better than dumbbells is an olympic bat and wieghts. Rather than having to buy totally new dumbbells each time you need to up your lift, you add some of the smaller weights from your earlier lifting periods onto the bar. Dumb bells are one of the least economically efficient ways to increase strength. Doing curls with them acknowledges that you are something of a funny man who knows little about lifting, or are not concerned with getting the most mass out of your investment of time and energy.
