These actually do work well. The weighted ab crunch is especially effective. The benefit of the bands is that you do not need a spotter. You can just let go if the weight becomes too much. But like 100% of exercise equipment out there, you have to use it rather than just look at it.

This is the discontinued version. It was priced $1200 before, but now is priced $570+$100 shipped at amazon. The newer version is priced roughly $1200. Still a good deal though.

Sure, the cables of the machine could kill someone if used inappropriately, which seems to be the case in this example. However, any device used improperly can cause harm. It is a terrible loss and situation that this 16-year-old passed due to constriction of the cables around his neck, however, I do not believe that with proper use the machine it would kill someone. I have no affiliation with the manufacturer of the product or the family of the deceased. Yet, I do think this is an excellent deal even if a newer model is being offered. It's too bad that the lat tower is so tall, however, as it will not fit in many basements that I know of.

#10, the Butler family believes that Justin was playing "the choking game" with the Bowflex. Sure, you could take away the lesson that you should use a spotter when practicing self-strangulation with your exercise equipment. Perhaps a better lesson would be to use the equipment properly and don't self-asphyxiate in the first place.
