That's the cheapest I've ever seen a laser printer.

I just ordered one. I'll bet it took 45 minutes with the time outs on the server etc. Hell of a deal tho0ugh. Office Max has it for $49.99 tomorrow, but I'd have to pay tax there. Not sure if they'll have any left, and I don't shop at 6AM.

The rebate does not appear store specific.

These things curl your paper from the heat and the exit tray doesn't stack too neatly. We tried a couple of these at work and they weren't very popular. At the price though, you will never need toner. Just buy a new one when you run out.

I own the HL-2170W (similar but with 802.11g wireless built-in). It's a very nice monochrome laser printer. I haven't noticed any paper curling like #6 mentions, but the HL-2140 may include the "Big Bamboo" option.

Was so impressed to see the deal and was about to place an order when your statement attracted my attention. Just tell me if it would be a good idea to get one for the office. In fact was looking for something like this and Google led me here. If you can just explain in detail about the problems you encountered it would be better for me.

i got this printer for $70 from staples 6 wks ago with the $20 rebate with free s&h.

on here it would be $40 + $11 s&h so after rebate only $31 instead of $55. Oh well.

I do notice the curling slightly but once the page cools off it's fine.

I almost went and bought the printer, but upon checkout, found out that shipping is over $18 in California. Only $9 if you're in the east coast. That kills the deal. I'd rather pay a little more and not deal with rebates. I hate rebates.

#12, no, for an office there will typically be higher volume so you'd want a printer with more toner per cartrige, and yes it curls pages, like all of the ultra short/small printers do. That's what happens when it has to have a very tight paper path and has a smaller drum. It also means it will have trouble with anything thicker than paper stock. On the other hand it's $20, hard to go terribly wrong at that price.
