For this price, the 5270 would sound more reasonable.

#2 the POS Samsung was $30 2 weeks ago not the office class 5240 Brother. These are serious printers not toys.

The BS is flying. I took the time to search Ben's and the last 4 Ben's sales have been $100-102 (10/5/08, 8/25/08, 2/23/08, 2/17/08 ) for brand new and $50 (2/8/09) for a refurb.

Those claiming $30 please post a link for brand new HL-5240 for $30.

Bought this at CostCo a year ago -- paid $270, although it did come with an extra paper tray. Been perfect, except it does like to wrinkle envelopes -- but every Laser printer that I've ever owned does that. There are instructions on the Brother website to reduce the wrinkling by adjusting the amount of heat the printer uses. In my case, I found that the envelope wrinkling wasn't a problem, and I use STAMPS.COM with this printer to print envelopes all the time.

This is a good price for a very good printer.

We love our two HL-5250's, which add the duplex feature and a network port. Great performers and easy on toner cost. I'd wait for that model to come down, you'll save a bunch on paper.

If you have envelope problems (we generally haven't) just buy one of the little Brother or Dymo label printers when they are on sale.

Instead of getting new cartridges, I tried the toner REFILLS on ebay for $10 per refill. You can refill the same cartridge for 2-3 times, until the drum fails then you need a new cartridge. It's cheaper than buying a new cartridge everytime for $30-$60.
I tried the toner refill on a Brother 2170N a month ago and the print quality is the same. =)

get a Samsung ML-2510 from Staples for around $25-30 after rebate and $25 of $100 coupon off fleebay. Printer reviews pretty good.
