I swore off buying another Brother printer after my MFC 240 informed me that it would not print a B&W text document unless I refilled one of the empty color cartridges. Plus I hadn't printed in color in months, the cartridge was empty b/c the printer wastes a ton of ink cleaning the ink heads. Granted there have probably been advances since my old 240 came out, but still, I hate that printer too much to ever buy another. Plus the print quality settings on the printer software are awful.

Uses 'generic' ink - cheap to run.
