What's it used for? Is it for when you have a PATA drive but no IDE interface? Like on a laptop or something? I otherwise can't think of what condition would make you want to drop to USB speeds.

#2, when i have to work a hard drive from another computer (usually to recover data), i would have to install it in a computer. with this item, you can connect the drive without opening the computer. it can connect to ATA or SATA, so you don't need two drive docks

Looks like the power cable for 3.5" IDE drive will not fit passed the interface. This device looks like 'DriveWire' but the case looks wider at the 3.5" IDE connector.

The 'DriveWire' on newer IDE drives the power connector will just get passed the enclosure (IDE connector; jumpers; power connector), so this one will not make it. Also on older IDE drives (IDE connector; power connector) the 'DriveWire' can not be used because the connectors are to close.

On the 2.5" & SATA the power comes thru the interface connectors, the 3.5 IDE is the only one that has to directly into the drive.

Also this device has the USB as a part of the unit, the 'DriveWire' uses a mini USB cable.

This device and 'DriveWire' are great devices for someone who works with old as well as new systems or drives, also great for persons upgrading desktops or laptop systems.

Currently I am using my DriveWire to scan a clients drive for Malware & Viruses (a ton found so far).

The 'DriveWire' has not failed me yet and I have been using it around 2-3 years

I have been using the Apricorn for almost 2 years and it serves me well. I do a lot of data recover for family and friends (some just know when to backup their data), so I use it quite often. I spent about 30 for it and it is worth every bacon double bacon burger.
