I have the 8400F and live by that thing. Dunno how th 8800 is, but if it's like the 8400, it's rock solid.

It isn't mentioned here but one of the best things about this scanner is the "no-wait" white LED light source. From "off" to "ready to scan" in about 7 seconds. It's also a film scanner... does a great job too on both negative and positive strips and mounted slides. All around excellent scanner. Deal is ok... I paid $15 more about a year ago.

It isn't mentioned here but one of the worst things about this scanner is the "no-wait" white LED light source. It is crude, low contrast that has to be artificially enhanced, and poor depth focusing which is inexcusible on a scanner in this price range.

LED lighting should be outright rejected on anything other than a one-touch all-in-one multifunction printer that will only scan perfectly flat black and white text. There's a reason why all the highest end pro scanners use CCFL, and even some sub-$100 ones do too because it's not an expensive feature to have. 7 seconds to scan is like saying if you always take a laxative you can always crap faster.
