Not a bad deal, but remember that the lens is often the most expensive part of a camera.
I have had this camera for a couple of months now and have been happy with it. I took over 600 pictures before having to recharge the battery. The picture quality is also great, though I am only an amature photographer.
no lens but at least you get free shipping.
Good camera.
nice camera. it takes great pics even on full auto.
Good price for body. The kit lens is pretty much useless. I bought a couple new lenses and my kit lens is just sitting in my camera bag. The price is probably dropping because the new Rebel XSi is coming out.
YESTERDAY the deal was even better... $489plus tax with the 18-55mmLens... wish i jumped on that one...
What the burp? This camera looks weird... WHERE IS THE LENS? Are these defective, or something? Thanks in advance!
I thought they were on Digic III processing now?
#6, I did use the kit lens for my trip to Asia. 18mm is pretty wide. Only down side is the kit lens doesn't do well in low light and IQ isn't so great. But it's great for wide angle shots with lots of light.
The 50mm lens is pretty good in low light and very good image quality for around $80 max (one of the best and cheapest lens U'll ever find). http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=30
#9 new model XSi 12MP Digic III and live preview lcd coming out soon.
I wouldn't wait on the new model based on the live preview alone #11, you could get a better Canon with this feature and better body design for a few extra bucks as it is.
Buy this and then buy the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for $409 shipped. Add a battery grip for $80 with two spare batteries. This package would be a wonderful start for most people. I also recommend the 50mm 1.8 lens for a decent portrait/low light lens.
Sorry #10, but 18mm (27.5-28mm equivalent) isn't wide enough to justify a dSLR these days. Panasonic has made 28mm equivalent almost standard in their PnS, and Sony's H7/H9 offers 31mm equivalent as well. If I'm going to go dSLR, I'm at least going 16mm (24.5-25mm equivalent), if not wider. There is a noticeable difference between 16mm and 18mm in a 1.5-1.6x crop -- every mm as you head lower is a sizable difference.
For my Pentax system, I have the DA 16-45 and the DA 10-17 Fisheye for my wide-angles. The DA 16-45 is not very expensive and a crapload better than any kit lens I've seen. There are other options as well at 16, including the Sony 16-105 which is a nice, 6.5x range. If I had to "start over," I might opt for Sony (fka Minolta) now, especially as they've expanded the product range. That and Sony, like Pentax, makes many functions "standard" in even their low-end models, and doesn't pull the bait with crap'n switch like Nikon does with the D40 series.
This is a really nice camera. Bought it 2 months back from amazon. The kit lens is not good. Canon puts Image stabilization in its lenses only. So its good to buy this body and buy a separate Image stabilized lens like the canon 28-135mm USM IS lens. Thats a great lens. I guess this camera is getting cheaper as Canon's new XSi model is coming out this April. But you would have to pay $700 for the body alone at this time. What do you get for that price? Live view, Spot metering and Digic III processor to name a few. Would I upgrade? No. I think the XTi features are great for any amateur photographer. If I was to upgrade I would go for the 40D.
