Good price as long as it's not silver.

Well, better than the Newegg deal below. Buy this and pick up a good lens of your choice... Buydig has this for $539 if the DELL coupon expires. I am waiting to upgrade my 3 year old 300D.. May be to 40D when that reaches down to my affordable price range..

i guess its better if you dont care for the picture frame and cf card from newegg. But i agree with #1 with silver, I prefer black.

i would jump on this but i like #2 have my eyes on the 40d also

Black says "Steal me." Other than that I don't see what difference the color makes.

#3, Depends on what you want to use it primarly for. Looks like you look at the price of items(like myself). With that assumption, I would recommend a prime lens (in fact it is the cheapest Canon lens). It is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. Here is the amazon link, but check at buydig,jr etc..bacon could be cheaper. I bought it for around $60. Worth every bacon double bacon burger for taking Portraits even at low lights.

      http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/102-3961985-1334514?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=canon+50+mm+f1.8
Just remember that it's NOT a zoom lens and that if you drop it even on as soft surface it easly breaks.

Of course you have to buy good zoom lens also..

#3, Here are some recommendations. Get the kit lens, Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-6 Also make sure to add the fantastic plastic (Canon EF-50mm f/1.8 II) to your collection. Awesome lens and costs under $80. EVERYONE with a Canon should carry one of these.

If your budget allows you're going to want a wide angle lens, Tamron is good 3rd party lens, and the one you probably want to go for is Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/8

I am a personal fan of my current lens, which I use to replace the kit lens, Tamron 28-75mm f/8 ~$360

For your more expensive lenses make sure to look into UV filters. Tiffen and Canon make some pretty good filters

thanks #7 & #8 - I'm debating canceling the kit order that comes w/ Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-6 and instead getting two inexpensive Tamron lenses from buydig here:
      Tamron 75-300mm F/4-5.6 LD FS=62 ($129.99)
      http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=TM75300LDEOS
      and
Tamron 28-80mm F/3.5-5.6 Aspherical For Canon EOS ($39.99)
      http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=TM2880EOS

would you guys recommend I do that or stick with the kit lens and buy a different (cost concious) zoom lens?

Also, for storage, should I spring for the 2GB Ultra II CF card as opposed to straight up CF?

      Thanks in advance

Excellent camera for the price. When it came out it was for over 1500 dollars. Camera gives a lot of control in focusing, white balance, color range and more.

#9 Personally I don't like the 18-55 kit lens and if you check the reviews it's not great...But if you don't want to pay great bucks for a lens, it's a good alternative. I don't think the Tamrons you mentioned is a great lens even for the price. It wouldn't be doing much justice to your good camera. If you do not want to invest much money now and need an overall lens, go for the canon kit lens. It's better than the cheap Tamrons you mentioned.
Anyway the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is a sure bet.

Here is a great lens to go with this body, I have done lots of research and if you are within a budget, this is the best money can buy, some say it's comparable with the L class.

#3, a good walkaround lens, and that which I currently use on my 30D is the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 LD DiII Aspherical. It lets you dip into the wide-angle (considering our 1.6x crop factor) and pictures are great. Awesome lens for a beginner. Picked mine up at Samy's Camera when they had one of their tax-free days.

How about the Tamron 18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 AF Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras lens?

It's affordable and wide zoom range!

I'm more of a camera weenie than anyone here.
I'm now going to withhold my priceless lens information and let you go ahead and follow the seemingly endless amounts of uninformed opinion above.
      Good luck.
