It's a great camera and a great price. I would invest in a solid fixed (non-zoom) lens over the canon zoom lens that normally comes with the camera. Problem is, they're not cheap. While the this entry level DSLR looks appealing, remember that the Nikon lenses are normally cheaper so in the long run, you may want to go the Nikon route. Of course, if you only plan on buying one lens, this isn't so much of a problem.

#21 It's generally believed that Nikor lenses are expensive than Canon... I admit that I do not know much about Nikor lenses though... I know that the cheapest L seris is around $550

This camera sucks!!
I bought one for my vacation to europe a few weeks ago. when we came back to check the pictures, I found out that the pictures from my wife's Samsung NV3, a compact camera with MP3 and MP4 video, are much better than the Canon 400D. I realize that DSLR is NOT better than DC because SLR is NOT better than rangefinder camera. Also the lens comes with 400D is slower than the built-in lens from the Samsung NV3. The canon lens is F3.5-5.6 while Samsung is F3.5-6
