Walmart has the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM "L" Series Macro Lens for $879 with free in-store pickup or $4 to home. Features Hybrid Image Stabilization and near-silent Ultrasonic (USM) focusing.
#3 - it's not a f/2.8 prime - it is a f/2.8 macro prime with image stabilization. L quality? Beats me - I've used non L lenses that has better image quality than some L lenses. Whether it is worth the money - the user will have to decide.
I bought this lens a few months ago when it was $880 with the Canon instant rebate. Sharpest lens I've ever used. The review on dpreview.com says it's one of the best lenses they've ever tested. Legendary.
#3. Dust + weather sealing. 4-stop IS. Tough construction. This lens is the definition of L-series. The non-L 100mm macro is a good lens but this one beats it in every way.
this is hotness.. i want..
but this price is before TAX...after tax it adds up to around $950...
L is just in the name. Not worth for the money for a f/2.8 prmie and not having the regular "L" quality.

That's an expensive mug!
#5 - You forgot to list one of the "features" of L lenses : included lens hood and lens case
I thought all the L series lenses were gray.
Only distinction of 'L' lens is the red ring.
@#8, only some of the zooms, not all. and the super heavy primes >200mm.
this lens is great, but not worth the $ over the non-is version.
you'll need the adapter to use the twin flash.
If I didn't already have the EF version, I'd be on this.
However I have to say the first thought I had was "What? Wallyworld sells real camera equipment?"
It had never occurred to me that they'd have anything other than stuff like the low end EF-S lenses (which still aren't too shabby for the $$$)
Yes, but will it keep my coffee warm??
