Buy.com has the the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens for $100 + $1 filler - $25 off using PayPal [Exp 6/10] = $76 with free shipping. This is a best-value prime lens for your Canon SLR that is both very fast and very sharp. It is often referred to as the 'nifty fifty'.
#4 ...since I lost all my savings in my "investment" on Wall Street to the too-big-to-fail banks and can't afford to buy a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens.
Nearly all camera packages come with zoom lenses that are usually f/3.5 or f/4 at the fast end, so for the majority of buyers out there, a 50 f/1.8 is by far the fastest lens they're going to own. Also the quality of the optics in this lens are superior to the majority of zoom lenses. So, for under $100, this lens offers a lot of possibilities that the average DSLR owner does not currently have.
For reference, the 50 f/1.4 is about $350 and the 50 f/1.2 is $1500.
Because most people considering this lens have inexpensive zooms to compare it to, not expensive fixed focused lenses. Compared to what mot camera owners have, this is a faster lens with better optics.

I've shot many great low-light club shots w/ this lens. I've since moved on and use a 30mm f1.4 and a 85mm 1.8 now, but this lens is still the best deal for only $75.
If you want the 50mm f1.4, you'll pay at least 4 times as much. With that lens, you get some benefits though--2/3 of a stop faster, USM and better construction. Optic quality of the 2 is about the same, however. For the cash, the f1.8 it is a great addition for noobs (or frugal folks) looking to shoot some low-light on the cheap.
This lens for portrait only. Honestly one of the best lens for low light (indoor).
As many people said, it's ok quality (made from plastic) as long as you not drop it like me (twice!) then it should be fine otherwise buy the Japan version cost you like $330+
Not the best construction, but an excellent lense for the price.
I have this. This is a great lens for entry level photography and for its price. This is a great price. I think this is a must have lens for $76.
The nifty fifty
Since when is f/1.8 very fast?

#5 - SUCKER!
Well Zonker, there aren't too many stops faster and many more slower so yes, fast.
All,
I have this lens and it is pretty good, espec. for the price.
As mentioned construction is not good but very sharp for the cost.
#7 - Fast? Maybe, but it wasn't considered very fast in the past. Why are we lowering our standards today?
Pretty good? Maybe for a cheap-ass lens, but I never mentioned price.
Zonker, you must be a multimillionaire. You wont sacrifice quality regardless of the price, very admirable.
Why are you on Bensbargains?
Zonker,
Website, please. You're dealing out a lot of criticism. Turn about is fair play, after all.
You don't have to be a multimillionaire to afford a good lens.
All I said was that f/1.8 is not that fast and that in the past f/1.8 was considered the average speed for a 50mm lens.
I'm on bensbargains to find deals on quality merchandise, not low-quality merchandise.
I get it, you guys are nifty-fifty fan boys. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
You guys need to read my posts more carefully.

Why are you comparing a 50mm fixed-focal length lens with zoom lenses that are thrown-in with inexpensive DSLR kits for marketing purposes?
You should be comparing the speed of this lens with other 50mm fixed-focal length lenses.
Zonker likes the cork. Quality cork, not low-quality cork.
