NewEgg.com has the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard & Medium Lens for $90 - 15% back using PayPal + $7 shipping = $83 shipped. This is a best-value prime lens for your Canon SLR that is both very fast and very sharp. It is often referred to as the 'nifty fifty.'

Well, this lens is one of the best that you can get for image quality - it is sharp from corner to corner and relatively fast at f1.8 (or very fast if you are used to the kit lens that comes with the Canon digital Rebel SLRs)

Now, it is not constructed like the f1.4 (all plastic enclosure) but the glass is actually better and it costs 1/5th to 1/6th as much. The image quality for in-focus items rivals the f1.2 50L which costs more than 12-times as much.

Many pro-level photographers keep one or two of these f1.8 lenses in their bag as it is a great lens and at the price, even if it does break you can always get another.

(Note - only the enclosure is plastic - the lens elements are real glass)

Great lens. I have one and use a 2X teleconverter to get a 100mm, f3.6 equiv (actually 80mm or 160mm w/teleconverter on my DSLR). Makes a great portrait lens.

Probably Canon's best and cheapest lens. If you have a Canon SLR you should already own this and if not get it.

I'm an amateur photographer and I have the F/1.4 but I only use that one 5% of the time. So I should've saved myself a couple hundred dollars and gotten this instead.

This is one of the best lenses in the lineup and it's the cheapest I've ever seen it.

As for construction - they've gone all plastic on this thing. It's ok, and for the price - heck buy another if it breaks.

You can still find the 1.0 models on ebay. They're metal construction with focal distance indicator on them. You can find those for about $130 last time I looked.

But for a great portrait lens - you can't beat this one to get started with.

It's a great lens for the price. You can take some cool shots with it.
Don't expect a lens that feels hefty and expensive feeling though.. it is light and very much plastic.

    #9 (think The Beatles) ... $80 everywhere means ...?
Looked several places and wasn't able to find it for $80.

Most have it for the mid 80's+. Amazon was cheapest at $82.
