Dell has the the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens for $85 with free shipping. This is a best-value prime lens for your Canon SLR that is both very fast and very sharp. It is often referred to as the 'nifty fifty'.
Also known as the "plastic fantastic" which may tell you something about its construction. Certainly a good lens for the money, but you might be able to pick one up 2nd hand from someone upgrading to the 50/4 Also note that the 50mm is popular because it gives a similar angle of view as the human eye on a full frame camera, not a 1.6 crop.
On the other hand, a 50mm on a 1.6 crop camera is mostly equivalent to an 80mm on a full frame camera, so it's in the range to be a decent portrait lens. Great lens, especially for the money -- people just shouldn't expect it to be a 'normal' lens on a 1.6 crop sensor.
