Office Depot has the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens for $100 with free shipping. Features a DC motor as AF drive actuator and a 4.9-foot close focus distance.
#1, zooms lens are excellent for fast paced/outdoors photography and typically does not require IS for such purposes. Still worth the purchase despite the deprivation of IS.
Does Canon know about this sale???? Canon equipment is never on sale.
It's not the lack of IS that's bugging me... It would be impossible to have an IS lens at this price. it's the infamous front focusing mechanism that I don't like. Big hassle to use with a polarizing filter.
#2 Even this is a EF so to use the 300mm, the rule of thumb is to set it to 1/250 to avoid blur (I doubt any 5D2 owner will ever use this lens). Instead I brought a 55-200 EFS for $200 with IS because I don't much long distance. I am impress how good the Canon IS works with my 7D though.
Nice price for a basic lens. But w/o IS- I will pass.

#2, having IS definitely help when you are zoomed in 300mm. Without IS, pictures will be blurry.
Wow, really? Now f . i . l . t . e . r . =filter? That's very stupid.
