Non-IS zoom lens is cheaper. This is a cheap IS lens for Canon. If you have Sony, Olympus or Pentax, you don't need IS since these camera have in-body IS.
No image stabilization on this lens, instead get the 55-250mm EF-S F.4-5.6 for a little more money.

Just brace yourself and use good technique. Handhold my 400mm L all of the time and get sharp shots. The issue with this lens is the glass.
