Newegg has the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens for $165 - coupon code EMCMNMV35 [Exp 12/23] + $7 shipping = $157 shipped. Micro ultra-sonic monitor (USM) makes autofocusing quicker and quieter than before; 4.9-foot close focus distance.
This does not have IS. The IS version is about double in price. It does not have USM (as stated) above. And USM = ultrasonic motor, not monitor. But the worst part is that the image quality leaves much to be desired. The 70-300mm is much better, has IS and USM. Unfortunately, it is also much more expensive (over $500).
If you're looking for a cheap zoom around this range, get the EF-S 55-250mm IS for about $100 more.
I will consider it if it is IS version.
#1, don't consider it.

If you get the EF-S 55-250 AND a Canon DSLR from Amazon, you get an instant $200 rebate (make sure both are from Amazon itself and not a partner).
This lens does not get good reviews. Check cnet.
great for out of focus shots. don't know what to blame.. the lens or the body.
most likely both - considering canons are plagued with AF issues
