Any opinions? This looks like it is a good deal, but I'm not sure about refurbished lenses being a good idea.

The EF-S 55-250 isn't a great lens to begin with. Poor materials and build quality. New, maybe it's a good price. Refurb, no way. Very slow focus, subpar images.

Mine works great, and I believe it was a refurb. Quick accurate focusing, great color and contrast, light weight. The only negative for me is a little dark in the corners wide open. Incredible value. I have $1400 70-200L 2.8 to compare it with too. ?? not as good as that but when you don't want a boat anchor tied around your neck. I guess it's not cool to have a common lens??

Be careful what you buy on craig's list or ebay that it is the IS version of the lens. The older non-IS version is not nearly as good and can be picked up cheaper. $200 is not a bad price, but it makes more sense to but $220 and get a new one. It is actually a good lens and gets very positive reviews from photographers. Of course it is not $1000 lens, but for the price is very good.
