I think it is pretty good deal if you are ok to deal with $400 rebate ( it's too big amount for me)
If you enjoy the preset mode ( landscape, sport... ) and like effortless turn and shoot - this is better than 7D for you. Even 7D can have C1-C3 setting but you have to set yourself. So if you not ready to think shutter speed, aperture, ISO. Get 60D instead of 7d.
I agree, $400 is too big of a rebate, for the same up front money you can get a 7D with the same lens. I don't think the absent of the scn modes should stop you from picking the 7D over the 60D since you can make the same argument with a T3i over the the 7D. The stuff you get in return like AF, FPS, Built Quality outweight the ease of use imo. Those scn modes don't work that well half of the time anyways.
#2 Agree- but there are still a lot of people use DSLR as high end point-and-shoot camera. If you go kids sport event then you will see...
BTW, for the $1299 deal last time (7D+ 18-135 lens) - The camera come in box for the combo for 7d+28-135 IS lens. But the getitdigital swap the 28-135 lens with 18-135 lens. and give extra 67mm UV filter. It appear new- but don't know what kind of trick they did to lower the cost..
The following is all the items come with the $1299 D7 ( from getitdigital)
1 - 7D Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera Body
1 - Canon IS Image Stabilizer 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S Lens [67]
1 - FREE GIFT for eBay Daily Deal buyers - 67mm UV Filter (MSRP $19.99)
1 - Canon LP-E6 Rechargeable Battery - Included in Manufacturer Box
1 - Canon LC-E6 Battery Charger - Included in Manufacturer Box
1 - Canon SLR Wide Strap - Included in Manufacturer Box

There's a good website for tracking the printer rebate. https://www.acbpromotions.com/canonrebates/
The only two nits I have with submitting one are that they require you to physically cut a hole in the box and send them the cardboard too. Annoying.
On the printer, that's double thick. I put it in an envelope and happened to drop it off at the post office. The clerk marked it as "hand sort" or something for an extra $0.20ish. Basically it had a good chance of getting shredded if it were handled by machine. Glad she told me as $400 was on the line.
