If you knew what the camera was capable of, you would think this was a good deal.

But you would still have to buy better lens cause this lens is a piece of crap. I would recommend just buying the body and getting a better lens.

I picked up a used Rebel XTI for only $250,added a vertical grip for $20, bought a Tamron 17-50 F2.8 lens... total = $870, the images will be better than this camera for about half the price. yay!

#3 - Your statement proves your absolute ignorance of anything relating to photgraphy.

Also, who buys a 7D with a kit lens?

#3 all I can say is. You are delusional. The lens you picked is very good. But the body is a piece of garbage in comparison to the 7D.

#5 - The Tamron lens he mentions is merely adequate and is probably a good match for the mediocre Rebel. Anyone buying a 7D is going to stick a 24-70mm f/2.8L USM or 24-105mm f/4L IF USM on it.

the xti is a fine little starter, it can produce wonderful images. the 7D is just a gateway drug, and I'm talking the hard stuff. I agree with #5, but that's just the start. the only pity is that the 7D is a 1.6 cropper. and no, the croppers don't make your tellies longer.

#3, I could probably get my 7D + 24-105L lens and use it as a hammer to bash your XTI + Tamron to little bitty peices and still take better pictures than it.

I use an XTi + Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 and produce images that you would beg for. It's not all about the body / lens, it's about vision and composition.

#11 no, it IS all about the equipment. The equipment makes the photographer. I have to believe I can spend $5000 and not learn anything about photography and be a great photographer. I don't want to do the work. For example, if I buy a $100,000 ten speed I can probably win the tour the france.
