#2 No.. you? If I bought this it'd be without the kit lens.

I usually just hold a magnifying glass in front of the LCD.

Make sure you have a large magnifying glass for the distant shots.

I still don't get why people rag on the kit lenses. They're very sharp, very compact, very light, and cover a very useful range. They're the perfect lens for a ton of situations.

I'll rag on the kit lens. One of the useful features is the Video mode. It came in handy when my daughter was born. I could shoot pictures and video without looking like a japanese tourist. The kit lens has a loud motor and when autofocusing during filming you get a loud noise in your video. The only advantage to the kit lens is the tiny size and light weight. Otherwise, I usually use the 17-85 USM.

Kit lenses are great. They're as sharp as most people will ever need.

#7, the kit lens isn't USM but it isn't that noisy. in video mode manual focus is much more efficient. i believe there is only 1 AF beam in video and so it seeks quite a bit before locking. i haven't had the noise issue, but i manually focus for video. the 1080 output looks pretty good even blown up on my 50".

i have the 50mm 1.8, 70-200mm 4L as well and i still use the kit lens majority of the time. it works for most situations.

I've found that Canon's camcorders work quite good for shooting video, but aren't so good at taking still pictures.

      Boy, that's strange.

      I use camcorder for filming.
#7, Canon stuffs are cheap in Japan therefore Japanese tourists mostly use Canon D bodies and L lenses. That's why you look different since you use Rebel class camera. If you really do not want to be confused with Japanese tourists, you should by a Kodak camera.
