The new models of the Rebel was always priced around $650-750 when they were released, why is this one different, there is only more competition now....
And here is my lesson with the rebel as a amature photographer, the kit lens sucks and is a waste of money, I didn't appreciate this camera until I purchased the cheap 50MM 1.8 lens, only then did I figure out what a SLR is capable of, the quality of the picture will depend 75% on the lens and 25% on the camera, so spent accordingly when calculating your budget.

as with life, you've just gotta make do with what you got. i've seen a lot of pictures come out great working with kit lenses. i'll admit, they're not good for low light...so you'd want to stay away from that unless your subject is static and you've got a tripod w/ a steady hand.
if you see yourself doing a lot of low-light photography, i suggest buying the Body Only ($100 less, ONLINE ONLY with most retailers, for now)...and using that saved $ for better glass.

Slightly upset because I bought the kit for $899.99 at Amazon only a few weeks ago, but the pictures have come out great for me.

i agree somewhat, #1, but the current kit lens (18-55 IS) is more than adequate for most people. it's much better than the older non-IS kit lens that came with the XTi, etc. i just got my 50mm 1.8 a few days ago and for <$100 it is ridiculously sharp/fast...excellent for the $$$$.
This sounds like a sweet deal, but I guess I need to shop around for a better price. The lens with this kit is basic and great for taking outdoor picture. IF you are a professional then you ought to buy a high quality lens to truly be happy with this baby.
