What would you consider mid-level, semi-pro and professional?

Probably a better deal to get it with the kit lens for another $50 or so.

This is what I want, but it costs more than your average car:

#4 got it right, I'd like to offer an easier way to remember.
Canon T1i = advanced n00b or soccer MILFs
      Canon 7D or 50D = semi-pro - thumbplum with money
Canon 5DMII or 1DsMIII = slow moving pro (Weddings, portraits, etc) - thumbplum who think they know everything
Canon 1DIII = Sports photographer - even bigger thumbplum compensating for their non-existent ability to play sports.
