XS is not outdated. It's just their lowest-end. XS and XSi are their entry-level DSLRs at the moment. I just bought a refurb XSi (better than XS) from Adorama for 470, no lens. The 18-55 lens is available cheap, and they have refurb kits with it as well for I think in the 500s.

I wouldn't have been able to tell it was a refurb.

The 18-55 isn't very good (I got the 28-135 for starters) but, hey, it's better than any P&S camera, at least. You can upgrade later.

i upgraded from the kit lens to a Tamron 17-50mm F8

the kit lens isnt very good. it's not very sharp and is terrible for low light situations. if you really want a kits lens, i'll sell you mine.

Beware of Abes. They call you after the web purchase to pile on overpriced extras and if you don't take the bait they refuse to sell or take other under-handed tactics. Remember they are not even located in Maine! Their title even has deception in it.

#9, what the hell you talking about?

Abes' been lacking in the customer service area lately, but it's been around longer than yer mom so I doubt it turned to a bait & switch scam that runs out of NY nowadays.

Do some research before spewing stupid crap, dip baconnaise.

      Crappy deal btw.

      *edit: nice filter Ben.

An F8 lens is not what I would recommend for a walk-around lens.

#10 Hey Brainless aka phazeless, not only did I do my research including numerous reviews from people who have purchased from Abes and have reported the very same underhanded tactics but personally experienced it when trying to purchases a TV. Buy from whomever you like, but you can't refute someone else's testimony of the way Abes pressed the sale.

Since Abes is based in NJ they would never stoop to NY tactics to keep the money coming, what in the world was I thinking, NJ dealers have a rep to protect. Rolling Eyes

Wow! That doesn't surprise me from Abes. Kind smells like the very issue I have been talking about. Lets get another hundred out of the poor sap. Wait they haven't even got the the warranty yet. Twisted Evil
