Definitely not a bad price to jump into the SLR world for. You will need some glass though.

Well, you need to buy lenses, but it's a great camera. My XT is still working fine, but so tempting...must...not...click....

afroginawell, i dont' know if it'd be that much different than your XT. I was in the same situation as you and i buoght the xsi because i coudln't resist the urge. i honestly dont' think you're going to be wowed by the differences. they are noticeable (bigger screen, mega pixels, more shots per second, sensor cleaning, rubber texture on parts of the cam, spot metering). those are the main differences.

if you don't have a DSLR, this is a
      Knock Knock.

great price. ignore those that say things like "great starter dSLR" and "nice entry level camera". it is more camera than 99.7839% of camera users will ever understand or need.

I have a Canon 40D, but the Canon 50D came out shortly afterwards, but reviews have it that the Nikon D90 is the better choice over Canon 50D
I wouldn't get this one. If you have the money, buy the D90, it's less than $1000 for a body and a starter lens.
