At first I thought this had to be the 18-55 IS lens as they are packaging it as such quite a bit. However upon viewing the specs it does appear to be the much older kit lens without IS. The new one has gotten pretty good reviews. The old non-IS is workable, but not great.

get the body only to save $70, and don't forget to use the DPA to get an additonal 3% off.

Eh. The lens is not great, but at least you get to play with the camera straight out of the box (assuming you don't already own any other lenses). And no, it's not IS.

#6, i've read that the kit lens is an IS lens. Unless Dell is making their own bundles with the body and lens, i think the lens it comes with is an IS lens.

You don't need IS for this lens.
