I think the models XSi [ in USA/Canada ] and 450D [ in Europe and Japan] are the same.

Amazon has this for $699 with free shipping and no tax. Tax for me brought the CC deal to $716

This seems like a pretty good camera. I'm not sure if I should wait a little longer for the price to drop or get it now....hm...

Do some research...just bought the XSi recently to replace my XTi. Love most everything, except when using live view, the autofocus function is not straight forward automatic like whe looking through viewfinder. Wish I had realized this before buying...may have changed my mind.

Don't buy a dSLR if you want to use Liveview exclusively. What would you have purchased if you had known this? You prob would be better off w/ the Canon G9 or something.

I think there is a mistake in the description above. The lens included is the IS lens, not the EF-S, which is rather poor at low end of focal length.

Using live view exclusively or not, it's the autofocus bit I spoke about. And what's wrong with exclusive? I happen to like that feature and still want a DSLR.

I moved up from an Xti as well. Glad I did. I use the live view for macro... This is a decent price, too.

#8, the Pentax LiveView options have similar limitations. I've yet to see a dSLR LiveView that was as good as a Point'n Shoot.

#9 is right, let's remember these are dSLRs, not Point'n Shoots. If you really want LiveView, then a Point'n Shoot is much better and far more flexible.

So, #8, your comment in #12 becomes one of ignorance. A SLR is called Single Lens Reflex for a reason, you get a far more perfect image in the view-finder, than a pixelated one on the LCD.

It's the SLR that causes the autofocus complexity with LiveView. It will take a very significant re-engineering to make dSLRs so they can leverage their superior AF and other capabilities, but be as "easy-to-use" as Point'n Shoots, when in LiveView.
