Don't get this. The powershot s5 does a better job with standard definition video. And it takes pretty good stills as well.

      this is so wrong:
paypal is a paypal auto rebate which hits your paypal account after 6-8 wks - if you're like me that means my mom will spend it before you know its there
blue model shown in the pick is $10 more
tax may be included which means I can get it elsewhere for 285 w/o rebate

      Because it's cheaper.

The quality is ok in sunlight, awfully grainy with any indoor lighting.

I'd rather pay more for one that does HD.

#3. If you don't have an HD TV, which I don't, then there's no point in having an HD recorder.

Has anyone captured a single frame from one of these? Is the resolution adequate for 4x6 inch print?

This is a relatively good price if you're not looking for HD.

I just bought this 3 days ago at bestbuy ($300). The picture quality is so aweful with indoor shooting. Haven't has time to try it outdoor yet.

Cannon tends to be pretty bad with low lights. A quick glance at the specs does not show built-in light. On the pro side, they do very well outdoors.

#7, you'll get a HDTV sooner or later, so... unless you don't plan to keep neither the footage nor the camera longer than 5yrs, HD plays a role...

I've never had much luck with photos from a video camera, they may be a high megapixel but they always seem to lack the color and depth of a photo from a dedicated camera.
