Good consumer HD CAM but depends on what you want. Lots of gadgets and tools but not useful for good filming - just for "playing". Not great image stabilization but better than Sony, which is by far the worst IS.

is it really THAT MUCH BETTER to have a HD camcorder? since a lot of the traditional ones go for less than 50% of this price.

I will wait a long time to buy an hd camcorder. With only a 10x optical zoom. My vhs has better than that.

It IS that much better to have HD in a Camcorder. No question. Just need to be able to burn HD DVDs on your home computer (which almost nobody has ability to do).

Why is this a good deal? BHPhoto.com's regular price is $689.95 and there is no tax either (unless you live in NY state).

tomasSC - Do you buy your movies for $20 each? I would rather make a copy.

#8, I still burn a ton of stuff. About to hit the store and buy another 100 pack of DVD+R's. Do you have an easier way to view all of your movies / videos and share them with people who don't live in your house?

Yes, my friends & family without fiber can't really get my content (movies, etc.) very easily (private hamachi network). Too bad for them...

DVD's are quickly becoming obsolete. everything will stay in electronic files shared over a network. better get your head around that before the world passes you by. Blue-ray and HD-dvd are already DOA (they will be obsolete before the price comes down to consumer level)

i would never buy from Amazon electronics. EVERYTHING comes in plastic bags seems like refurb. and work less than 2 month. I bouhgt from them bluetoothe and headset logitech. So BH or onecall should be better.
