so what does this thing record onto? miniDV? harddrive?
This is a MiniDV recorder.
All right, now we're starting to get someplace; the baby-step climb to this level of specs has been tedious. Now I just have to wait a year for the price to drop...
true 1080 high-definition video? Does that mean 1080p?

...and the price for HD continues to drop. It's soon time to upgrade. Excellent camera by the way.
Great video camera, still a little pricey.. i was going to get the hv10 maybe i'll get this instead.
I want HD also
so, I don't feel like looking but how much HD content can you record on a 60 minute MiniDV tape? I have to assume it's less than 60 minutes.
how sturdy is this? I need one for a high school broadcasting class. The kids can be a little rough on minidv cameras.
Price is dropping for this camera. Right now, HV20 is the best price/specs/performance High Def consumer camcorder in the market. For more info, try www.hv20.com.
Woah great deal on a great Camera. This won several best camcorder prizes this year. On the other hand, unlike mp3 players and digital camera, these things aren't going to increase much in resolution, capacity or abilities, so prices are likely to fall substantially. If you want one now though, you aren't going to get much better of a deal than this.
It was around 1000 when I bought it early this year. However, I end up with returning it because of its poor low-light performance.
Also, its probably putting the cart in front of the horse a bit if you and people you would show this to don't even have 1080P TVs.
bleh. minidv.
when are the 1080-capable hard disk camcorders gonna come down in price? heck, even the Sony that uses memory sticks would be preferable over minidv.
Sweet!
I want....
while miniDVs probably have some of the best qualities, they simply take too long to stream into the computer
beautiful camera. still a little pricey, but damn on the 1080
#9 - A 60 minute MiniDV tape hold 60 minutes of HD video.
