Excellent basic multifunction for this price. Feels well-built - hope that means durable. This is hardly a "cutting edge" device. The only real bell & whistle is two-sided printing (which is handy). It's also fairly big & heavy for what it does, but that's one of the main reasons why I chose it. The D420 feels sturdy compared to most multifunction units in this price range. It looks like something you'd see in an office or library instead of a home. I miss having color, but I prefer laser over inkjet because ink is expensive and dries out even when you're not using it.
Print quality is excellent. The scanner is fairly slow and low-res, but more than adequate for most of my needs, including photographs. However, it does NOT take the place of my photo scanner (which has higher resolution, back-lighting for film & slides, and infrared dust removal).
Inexpensive 3rd party toner carts, ~ $13 delivered on eBay.
