Interesting ... I've looked at this printer for a while but every rebate I see (at newegg, staples or on canon's site) has Amazon.com as being in the exclusions list. Seems risky for a $175 MIR when those rebates exclude amazon.com
This is a monochrome printer rather than color as the description above states.
Well spotted #1. This rebate is a no-go. And yes, #2, not color.
If this is "Ben's Best" I can only shudder at what his worst might be.
i don't see anywhere on amazon offering this rebate...$175 is a lot to risk. Rebate does not exclude amazon though...still...
very attractive deal, but as stated risky
I called the Canon rebate hotline. They confirmed that Amazon is not participating in the rebate.
If you need one now, Staples has Canon® imageCLASS® MF4350d Laser Multifunction Printer for $149 after $100 instant rebate and look for a $30 off $150 coupon from Staples. $120 before tax.
May be the rebate is in color.
Did they really say that #6? damn I already ordered it from Amazon. Because I'm using amazon prime, so they don't let me cancel the order for now. Ben, you cost me $20 for returning this back to Amazon.
Just called Cannon rebate, they said Amazon do not participate in this. So everyone saves your money and buy something else
How well is this model supported under Linux?
Rebate form on Canon's own site does NOT exclude any merchant.
I am going for the Amazon offer - I already have one D480 and
getting a second one for $240 isn't bad. Getting one for $65 is
too good a gamble to pass.
nope
Canon updated the form
Amazon is in the 'no fly zone' after all
(cancelled my order...)
Those of you who ordered it already and can't cancel, who will have to return it, you should contact Canon again not just asking if Amazon is participating (because they might assume they aren't due to other rebates excluding them) but also mentioning that the rebate form you have (you did save the PDF linked in case it disappears, right??) does list excluded merchants and Amazon is not on the excluded list, meaning it is clearly a rebate intended to cover multiple resellers putting Amazon in the clear.
Instead the rebate stipulates it must be purchased from a Canon authorized dealer or authorized distributer reseller. Amazon IS an authorized dealer. Mention these things to the Canon CSR, legally they should be required to honor their rebate when you are complying with the terms stated on it, and of course you can email it to them as proof... or don't, I wouldn't advise buying at this point then trying to get the rebate but if you already did, technically you are entitled to it instead of having to return the printer.
The confusion over the genuineness of the other rebate and the $175 amount at stake makes me want to wait for the next rebate. If you scan the internet, such rebates for the same printer have been offered for the past 3 years and the effective price after rebate have been the same as now or lower. If you are not really desperate for this printer, I think you should wait or understand that you are in for a gamble.
Not to worry!
Fry's has the same Canon image CLASS D480 Multifunction Printer availabe for $149 after a $175 Rebate. I have confirmed that this deal is valid thru 1/8/11.
