Is the scanning quality of this printer (1200x2400) double or quadruple that of 600x1200 scan resolution ?

My 600x1200 resolution printer has trouble recognizing 8 pt. characters. Will 1200x2400 recognize 8 pt.?

Resolution claims are about as accurate as MPG claims. That would be quadruple, if true.

Resolution claims can be an indicator of true resolution discrimination capability but it relies on an all else being equal. In the case of low cost printers including this one, the scanner usually has a CIS image sensor which is inferior to CCS, best used for direct copying of B&W documents where the difference isn't noticeable as much.

bbsam this printer is not likely to make enough of a difference, but if by recognize you mean get an OCR program to work with high recognition rate, the quality of the program may also be an issue.

Just picked one up, can't beat that price for a all in one. I really just need a new scanner.

Thanks #3, #2. Get the idea that the higher resolution will not necessarily solve the 8 pt character recognition issue. But considering that the cartridge alone may be more than $20, this is still nice one to get.

    [EDIT]
One important fact I forgot to consider. With the bundled software the inexpensive scanners don't do OCR, but only make an image pdf. Forget about recognizing any font, let alone 8 pt. unless you have an OCR software.

^ I'd budget around $90 for a Canon 5600F, it outperforms the typical $500 AIO printers' scanner... though there might be something better out there today for about the same money, I haven't checked recently. Even then, it may have trouble under 12-pt. font.

Since I do scanning only occasionally, I'll wait for the price to drop like 50%. Thanks for pointing out the 100% scanner.

Canon is simply the best when it comes to printers; bulk refill ink is cheap and cartridges are easy to refill. My ip3000 printer is a decade old and just keeps on knocking out those pages; no problems,,,can't remember it ever jamming...zero problems.

    Loyal Canon fan here.

If this comes with startup ink, then I'm in for 10 of 'em.

I just purchased this same all in one from a posted deal for $30 from a different vendor a couple months ago. It does not come w/ a USB cable (this is typical for most printers) but it does come w/ a start up black and color print cartridge.
