This is a great printer for the home office that you can't go wrong with.

Good speed, great quality, awesome price on ink.

Wish I could find just a sheet-fed scanner for under $50. Might have to settle for this - don't really need a new printer, but...

#2 - You can get a decent Canon flatbed scanner for $60 from newegg. Scanners seem to be more expensive because they don't force you to buy ink like a printer.

I have this one and it is fine, but the ink carts can be a problem. According to the boards some don't work and this will disable the printer until it is fixed. If you are going to get it, you'll need an extra set of carts (5 x $15) or risk not being able to use it. It has something to do with the ink cart chips that prevents them from working. I had to write them and they replaced my bad black cart. This doesn't seem to be an isolated case. I like the multi-function printer, but would not get it again.

The scanner in the $50 MX300 all-in-one works just fine. You don't need to spend $60 for a stand-alone.

#5 - the MX300 is $70. Buying a stand-alone scanner with better resolution is not a bad decision if you already have a good printer.

      I have this printer too.
You can get non-oem carts with the chip (all 5 carts) for $24.50 at:

      http://www.meritline.com/5pack-canon-cli-8-compatible-ink-cartridge-combo-chip-for-canon-pixma-ip4200.html

      I haven't tried these yet.
