I'm not too thrilled with mine. I bought it to replace an aging Panny TZ1, and found the Canon to be a bit blurry for my liking. Just my 2 cents...maybe I got a bad one.

#2 I had the same problems until I figured out the settings. Usually "auto" takes care of 90% of the pictures you take but you have to know how to use it for the other 10%

This is one of my favorite cameras hands down. the a series from canon provide a professional type quality photo from a small camera. These have many functions and provide people with many options to enjoy.

you can run CHDK firmware on this camera(and a lot of the Cannon PowerShot models) to give you a lot more features, like RAW picture storage(rather than just JPEG), change the video compression rate, get a live histogram as you're setting up your picture, use faster shutter times, take time-lapse movies, have an on-camera calender, and play games. You can also write your own scripts for it in a BASIC type language, to do things like take a picture when the camera sees movement, or automatically capture pictures of lightning.

    here's a page that describes CHDK: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_in_Brief

and here's the link to download it: http://bensbargains.net
just look for your camera model, download it, and copy it onto your SD card. Instructions for booting off of this firmware are on the readme included in the download.

#6 this is by no means a new model.. Its been out for over a year now..

the new models are the A720, A1000 and A2000..

Its a decent camera but really nothing awesome.. Strong points are ease of use and that it takes sdcards(sdhc) and AA batteries..

Good picture quality, but too bad they cripled the video at 640x480 20fps.

Fantastic camera for the price, especially when combined with the CHDK firmware. Read the reviews on sites such as stevesdigicams.com. Very sharp optics, AA cell operation (use NiMh rechargeables for more shots), very good image stabilization, and it's hackable--what's not to like?
