I have one of these I purchased from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. It's a great camera with manual controls that give you the ability to adjust the shot to your liking. It's not the best camera for a casual user since you're paying extra for the ability to adjust as well as shoot in RAW format. There's a good in-depth review just posted at dpreview.
Tuan2. they're different type of camera. To say that the GF3 is the same size as the S100 if you remove the lense is like saying that Hummer is the same size as a Honda Civic if you just remove the body. When you factor in the GF3 big 14 mm - 45 mm, it stop being a compact point and shoot. I'm a guy, i have 2 front pockets, 1 for my phone, 1 for my camera, where the hell am i going to put that giant lens without looking like horny perv? Now the GF3x with the electronic X 14-42mm would be somewhat pocketable in a coat pocket, but then you're talking about a big price increase.
Actually, the gf3kk is onsale at Target for $2 less than this WITH the new version 14-42mm. It is why I bought it up. In my post I mentioned its onsale for $400-$75 Target Gift Card.
For the same price I would rather get the gf3 and hang it around my neck. The gf3 is a dog compare to the big sensor DSLRs and Nex but against compact sensors its the king or the bargain of the century in DigitalRev's opinion. I think so too.
The GF3KK still have the big noncollapsible lens. The GF3X has the new collapsible electronic zoom lens which is 3 times smaller. And your personal preferrence have nothing to do with the fact that they're different type of camera. The gf3 is NOT a compact point and shoot, the S100 is. The point of the S100 is so that you have a camera every where that you go. I don't want to walk into a steak house with a GF3 dangling around my neck.
That being said, you are right in that for the same amount of money, the GF3 is a much better camera in term of IQ and performance.
i missed it! ARGH! This is a great point and shoot. perfect for the semi-pro or enthusiast photographer that wants great low light pictures and great image quality. been waiting for this for awhile.
my sony nex-5 takes better pics, but for the portability this is still the best pocketable size.
S100 vs s95 you get 12 Megapixel CMOS sensor vs 10mp on the s95 (expect a lil better performance due to new tech) broader 5x optical zoom vs 3.8 zoom on the s95 (wider and longer, but slower at the long end) 1080p movie capabilities vs 720p on the s95 quicker continuous shooting built-in GPS vs no GPS.
great deal IF it were available
Available to ship but not at store. Best compact point and shoot that money can buy.
The price has gone back up to $429 now.
So why a Panasonic gf3 not a point and shoot? Sensor is much bigger than this so picture iq gona be much Better.
Compact- about the same size-if you remove the lens.
P & S - auto mode.
Price the same if you can use $75 gift card. ($400 - $75 gc)
