Although NewEgg does appear to have only positive reviews, I was discouraged from this particular camera by those at DPreview.com (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=canon_sd890is).
I wouldn't be too discouraged, Canon is the leader in compact camera sales (correct me if I'm wrong) and the specs are great. The problem is the high price which I would expect this to drop a $100 in a short while.
Personally, I would wait for an actual review and comparing the picture quality before making the claims those guys on the forum made.
Your handle reminded me of something funny I'd like to share.

The guys that blather on about image sharpness and such are working at the extreme small details of the photo. If you are concerned with that, you should be shooting medium format film, not compact P&S digital.
A friend of mine has this camera and loves it. My only problem with it is that it is not wide angle enough. I personally would like the SD790 instead.
