This camera gets good reviews at dpreviews.com. The thing I don't like about it, being a complete novice to photography is that the flash is a manual pop up. As a side note, this uses AA batteries which can be good or bad, depending on your view.
The further a flash is from the lens, the less redeye you get, and the less glare off of eyeglasses and other reflective surfaces parallel to the lens. So, the further is better. The problem is that people want small cameras. The only solution to this is the popup flash. Not saying you have to like it, just explaining why it is common on uplevel cameras.
Don't have one, but a great point and shoot of you don't care for the small size of the elphs and have more to spend than the Axxx series.
32mb sd card ftw!
I have the Canon S5 IS and it too uses the manual pop up flash, you get use to it. I turn on the camera and pop up the flash without thinking about it and then it's ready to go if it needs it. If the manual flash is your only concern don't let it worry you too much.
