The SX20 is a minor upgrade over the SX10. It adds 720p video and a 12MP sensor instead of 10MP.

The higher MP sensor has been reported to have slightly more noise than the SX10 model.

I own SX10, and while it's larger and heavier than I'd like, it takes better pictures than any point & shoot I've owned. The 20x zoom is great.

Model has same size sensor as SX10, which is a 1/2.3 CCD. They should have kept it at 10MP, and add just the HD video. Some reviews panned the PQ, compared to the SX10.

Is there any way to ensure you can get a Japanese-produced model, or just got to play the lottery?

SX10 FTW. If you have an old, beat-up or broken Canon camera, trade it in for the SX10 for $199. Just call Canon customer support.

why does it matter if it is made in China or Japan?
It all depends on the quality control imposed by the manufacturer.

#6, people still believe things made from Japan by Japanese are of better quality. It's true with cars, too.

Then what about the American built Hondas? do people think they are of lesser quality now they are built here? not!
