This has some good reviews at Amazon. I had thought I wanted a hard drive camcorder, but with SD cards you have zero noise from the camcorder while recording.

#1, HDD camcorders barely make noise while recording, and if barely audible it is not picked up by the microphone... at least that is my hands-on experience with my Sony DCR-SR62 (I've recorded our first baby asleep and so was a virtually quiet environment -> no HDD noise picked up by mic).

Waiting to see if Amazon matches this price as they briefly did on Saturday afternoon. I should have pulled the trigger then, but I really thought it would be lower today. If I didn't have Amazon gift cards I'd buy this from JR right now. This thing has awesome reviews everywhere! I'm selling my Canon ZR200 (miniDV) to get the HF100. No more motor noise, HD quality, smaller, has a video light and a separate flash light and it's much easier to get the video onto the PC (no more 1 to 1 capturing).

I bought this about a week ago and it's a great camcorder so far. Great picture and silent.

The image stabilization on this is phenomenal. Even at the highest zoom the videos are very stable and eliminates handshaking (especially good for users juiced up with too much caffeine).

Great camera, take a beast of a pc to do any kind of editing of the AVCHD footage.

Very nice camcorder IMO but this is my first so can't directly compare to others. I've only noticed one flaw but perhaps it is because I'm a newbie and some setting is wrong? But when I get past about 8 or 9x zoom the image gets very blurry so I can only use it to about 8x.

      Price is back to $549.

#8, my quad-core with Sony Vegas Pro should be able to handle it fine.

Have never had a problem with J&R. Expect noisier results from AVCHD than tape for the time being. SD storage? No thanks. The HV30 is $549 at Amazon.
