I got this the last time it was posted here from buydig.com for $649. This is an awesome camcorder. Very small and light with great quality. It also uses SDHC (16GB card for around $60 last week).
Why is the Canon VIXIA HF10 so expensive, around $800-$900-$1000? Difference is only built-in 16 GB flash memory.
This camera has a fatal flaw in the cmos sensor. After a few dozen hours of use, chromatic aberrations will begin to appear in the video (purple fringing, etc). DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA! I warned you.
I have only used it for about 6 hours so far. I will keep an eye out for the chromatic aberration later on. It's under warranty and my credit card offers additional protection. I was thinking of getting the squaretrade warranty anyway (with accidental protection... have a 3 year old who loves breaking everything).

I was going to get he H10 (base on CNET reviews) but when I saw the H100 for $120 less and the only difference was the body color and the 16gb built in I went for the H100 instead. I bought two 16gb SDHC cards with the savings.
For those interested in picture quality more than light weight and who don't mind miniDV tapes, the HDV-format HV20 and HV30 still offer a better picture than these latest AVCHD cams.
Umm... actually, most of the professional reviewers online are saying that this camera does better in some low light situations. As a student filmmaker myself, I would have to agree with them and say this is the first AVCHD camera to surpass HDV video quality. I really didn't know whether or not to by this camera due to the AVCHD flukes, but now I completely believe I made the right decision.
I struck this off my list because it only records 2 channel audio
AVC bitrate is 17 Mb/s which is standard.
I have the Sony HDR CX7 also memory card based AVCHD based cam- loving it so far but does anyone know of an affordable editing software that can handle the AVCHD format..I picked up Sonys Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum which says its compatible but discovered it cannot output in HD after importing and editing without any problems...looking for something thats easy to use like the Vegas Suite...but can obviously export edited HD video..????
#8, here's a blog post on crave.net.com that is updated several times a month with the latest news about HD editing software:

Amazon GB has this for $617.37
avchd is not true hd, it's scaled back to 720p i believe and compressed like hell despite 1920x1080 capture. where's the uncompressed true hd?
Chromatic abberation, if present, is due to lens not sensor.
And AVCHD is HD. AVC is the compression, HD is, well, HD. Where does it says it is scaled back to 720p? If you want uncompressed HD, good luck. Go shoot with film.
