very tempting, but will wait till these drop to $300.
Does this record at a decent bit rate yet? The first set of AVCHD codecs recorded at such a low rate that image quality was much better w/ regular tape (HV20/HV30)...
I want a camcorder that can do true 1080p. The thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is that tape is still better quality (based on comments) and AVCHD is really nasty to deal with (again based on comments).
I certainly do not want to step back into the 90's and buy a tape camcorder! Do I just need to wait longer?
It just feels like video is at least 3-4 years behind digital cameras in terms of it's comparison to tape or film based video and photos.
In other words my 14 MP digital camera is very geeky. It works great in the digital world or tranfering files and manipulating the outcome. Video still isn't geeky enough, because it's still too slow and combersome and quality is nothing close to stills. Maybe we need 100 core processors and 100 TB SSD drives before video ever gets geeky?
I am still not sold on the SD card version yet either. I use an canon HV20 at work and it does a very nice job. Yes you have to deal with the tapes still, but the image quality is very nice. It also does remarkably well in low light environments once you adjust the white balance.
