99.9999% of these cards that offer a 0% introductory rate for balance transfers also charge a 3% balance transfer fee. I call that false advertising. Your true introductory rate is 3% or more. More meaning that if the 0% rate lasts less than a year than that rate effectively is more (if we are talking annual rate).

For people who never cary a balance (which, everyone should be doing anyhow!):
The Costco Amex is a good card but you are not given much time to pay bills. You really have to pay attention to when a payment is due. Somehow, Amex has calculated the due dates to be perfectly inconvenient.
So unlike in the past with credit cards, where you could wait 29 days to pay, with this card, you have to pay it when you get it to be safe.

discover has decent cash back and a great online interface. imo for better cash back, opting for a chase freedom or a citi platinum dividends card would probably work out better

For my primary card I like to use Chase Freedom and get back 3%.
Secondary card is Discover when 5% depending on products of the month.
For major purchases I use Blue from Amex with 0%APR and 1yr extended warranty.
Keep far away from Citibank who canceled all 3-4 accounts within the past year, and also Wamu followed next. Good luck!

For the Chase Freedom card, 3% applies to:
    * Gas: Use your card for fuel, repairs, car washes and other gas station purchases
    * Groceries: Stock up on food, household goods and more at participating grocery stores
    * Quick Service Restaurants: Rewards add up fast from pizza to hamburgers to tacos - even sandwich shops, coffee houses and more.

    Everything else is 1%
    Enjoy!

I'd rather opt for a lower fixed interest rate - wait for chase to come out with a 6-7% fixed interest rate with 0% for the first year and a half or so...
