ClubIT.com has the Cavalry 1TB SATA External Hard Drive for $184 + $8 shipping = $192 shipped. The silicone shell system helps to minimize clutter on your desk while providing heat dissipation. [BizRate]

If I understand this, the HD is bare (case wise) but has silicone wraped around it for a case? Silicone is an insulator, so what about the heat? That has to be the dummest thing I have ever seen. And it also looks to me that the hook-up cable needs a molex connection to power this drive up. So that means that you either have to have your case side open or find a power plug to fit into the back of an expansion slot. Who was the ROCKET SCIENTIST who came up with this? As for transport, when I go to a friends house and bring this HD, he has to open his case to hook this up? That makes no sense. This is no cheaper than anyone's external drives, and they would be easy to take along with you. Plus this is WD's "Green Drive", so it's not that fast. Buy one with a hard case and PS or build your own. Don't buy into this idea. It is a joke.

I think that only part of the drive (edges) is covered in
Silicone; if the silicone provides space for air to circulate
under the drive, you could say that it aids heat dissipation
(as compared to either an enclosed drive or a drive on the
    desk).

Also, the silicone should help if it ever gets dropped.
Put a bit of bounce in your data.

#4: If you click on the link, it will show views of this drive. Also note that the bottom of the drive is totally covered with a few holes in it. I don't think that this would aid in any kind of circulation as there is little air movement thru those holes when it's sitting flat on your desk. It may help to stand it on it's edge, and when it falls over, the silicone may absorb the drop. Or it'll bounce off the desk LOL
