Depends on the cable Co. Comcast gives you one card for free, but charges you if you need a second unless you whine that it is only for one device . I have 2 cards in a silicondust prime 6cc and after arguing for about about 15 minutes and threatening to go back to dish(I wouldn't really) they finally bumped me to a manager who was relatively competent. I told him it was the same as a Tivo series 3(which is twin card) and he said "ohhhh, ok" and I've had 2 cable cards for no charge for the past 2 months. I also got rid of the comcast dvr and 4 other STBs saving about $50 a month and giving me 6 tuners to record/watch from
